body

BACKGROUND:

The SunTran fixed-route bus network contains over 300 bus stops that can be found both within and outside of the City of Ocala city limits. Through this project, SunTran will begin the process to improve bus stop infrastructure and passenger amenities throughout the community. This task work order has been negotiated with Kimley-Horn, who is an awarded continuing engineering firm for the City of Ocala.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

This task work order will include the design of construction plans and permitting for ADA compliant boarding and alighting areas and accessible paths in addition to the installation of passenger amenities such as benches, shelters, trash cans, bike racks, and lighting. Prioritization of bus stop improvements and site-specific amenities require a review of existing ridership activity, field conditions, and an assessment of coordination efforts that may be required with other permitting agencies and property owners. This project includes preparing construction plans and securing permits for twenty-five total bus stops.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The task work order will be funded by Public Transportation Grant Agreement #433304-2-94-01 with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), as amended and approved by City Council on January 18, 2022. The FDOT Public Transportation Grant Agreement provides 100% of the funding for the project; no local match is required. Project services will be paid using funds from SunTran grant account 494-050-455-544-54-31010.
