BACKGROUND:

The Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership, established by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998, is a U.S. Department of Justice initiative aiding state and local law enforcement. Bulletproof vests are a critical resource with a five-year life span. The U. S. Department of Justice offers grants covering 50% of the cost to replace expired vests and acquire new ones for law enforcement officers.

 

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

On September 29, 2023, the Ocala Police department received approval for the Fiscal Year 2023 Bulletproof Vest Partnership grant totaling $30,397 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. This grant enables the purchase of bulletproof vests with a 50% match of $30,397 budgeted in Fiscal Year 2023-2024.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Grant funds will be allocated to account 001-060-849-521-52-52010.  A 50% match of $30,397 is allocated in account number 001-018-849-521-52-52010.

BUDGET RESOLUTION 2024-113

 

A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2023-24 BUDGET TO ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE FUNDS FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FOR THE PURCHASE OF BULLETPROOF VEST EQUIPMENT TOTALING $30,397

 

 

WHEREAS, bulletproof vests have a five-year life span and grants are available to assist agencies with funding to replace and purchase new bulletproof vests for law enforcement officers; and

 

WHEREAS, on September 29, 2023, the Ocala Police Department received an award of $30,397 from the Bulletproof Vest Program funded by the Bureau of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice; and

 

WHEREAS, the Police department’s budget includes funding for the required 50% grant match.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCALA, FLORIDA, in regular session duly assembled, that the Fiscal Year 2023-24 budget be amended as outlined below.
