BACKGROUND:

On or about February 5, 2015, the Revitalization Strategies Division, now known as Community Programs, finalized a rehabilitation project for Alfred Daymon, a low-income household homeowner whose real property is located at 1636 SW Fifth Place, Ocala, Florida. The project was completed using State Housing Initiative Program (SHIP) Grant funding. The amount of the deferred mortgage was $43,973.82.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

On or about March 12, 2024, Community Programs was contacted by the daughter of Mr. Daymon, indicating that Mr. Daymon passed away on March 10, 2024. The Community Programs staff provided information concerning the Daymon deferred mortgage payout amount through the day of Mr. Daymon’s passing. On or about November 15, 2024, Community Programs received a check for the balance of the deferred mortgage in the amount of $24,002.38. Upon depositing and clearing the received check, the City will file the appropriate lien release associated with this transaction. Staff recommends this amount be accepted via the proposed budget resolution and added to the Fiscal Year 2024-25 SHIP grant budget to further assist low-income families with approved housing rehabilitation activities.
