BACKGROUND:
The Discovery Science & Outdoor Center Foundation, Inc. of Ocala, Florida (Discovery Foundation) aids in the success of the City of Ocala’s Discovery Center through fundraising efforts that support programming, exhibits, building renovations, and expansion.
The Ocala Rotary Foundation Inc. of Ocala, Florida (Ocala Rotary) focuses on projects that benefit the local community and support other Rotary International global initiatives.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
• The Discovery Foundation has committed to providing $11,000 in sponsorship funding from the proceeds of their fundraising efforts.
• The Ocala Rotary has committed to providing $4,000 in sponsorship funding from the proceeds of their fundraising efforts.
• Public-private partnerships provide a shared investment in community resources that benefit the City of Ocala residents.
• The funds will be used for the current and future Discovery Center exhibits, including the new freshwater fish tank.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Discovery Center exhibit sponsorship is $15,000 and will be applied to revenue account 001-347-000-000-02-24450 and expense account 001-021-151-575-57-44010.

BUDGET RESOLUTION 2025-119
A RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE FISCAL YEAR 2024-25 BUDGET TO APPROPRIATE TWO DONATIONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CURRENT AND FUTURE EXHIBITS AT THE DISCOVERY CENTER IN THE AMOUNT OF $15,000
WHEREAS, the City of Ocala, through its Recreation and Parks Department, will continue to develop current and future Discovery Center education exhibits to enhance the quality of life for City residents; and
WHEREAS, the Discovery Science & Outdoor Center Foundation, Inc. of Ocala, Florida has agreed to provide a sponsorship of $11,000 and the Ocala Rotary Foundation Inc. of Ocala, Florida has agreed to provide a sponsorship of $4,000 in support of programming, exhibits, building renovations, and expansion at the Discovery Center
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCALA, FLORIDA, duly assembled in regular session that the Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget be amended as outlined below to appropriate $15,000 in donations from the Discovery Science & Outdoor Center Foundation, Inc. of Ocala, Florida and the Ocala Rotary Foundation Inc. of Ocala, Florida.
