OCALA’S RELEVANT STRATEGIC GOALS:

body

BACKGROUND:

The Water Resources Department (the “Department”) currently operates and maintains approximately 145 lift stations. Lift Stations are placed in key locations to assist with transporting what is collected in our system to the wastewater treatment facilities.

The Department has standardized to Grundfos Pumps for the operation of lift stations. The oldest submersible Grundfos pump was installed in June of 2000. The pumps range from 2 to 137 horsepower. Approximately 70 to 75 percent of the City’s submersible pumps are Grundfos.

On November 1, 2022, the City advertised Sole Source Posting (SSP) No. SSP-192 for Grundfos wastewater utility products. SSP-192 was advertised for a period of 15 business days as required by section 120.57(3), Florida Statutes.  SSP-192 closed on November 22, 2022, yielding no protests from any other vendors.  These wastewater utility products, including pumps, are proprietary Grundfos products. FJ Nugent and Associates, Inc., is the sole Grundfos distributor for wastewater products in our area.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

The standardization of Grundfos pumps results in a limited number of tested pumps/brands existing on our system for maintenance and technician familiarity. Staff has been trained on the operation and repair of Grundfos pumps and Grundfos parts are on hand for repairs.  Though the pumps are standardized, the price quote is within the range of similar pumps from other manufacturers.

The Fiscal Year 2024-25 contract number is 250445.

Staff recommends approval.

FISCAL IMPACT:

These pumps and consumable parts are purchased and maintained as part of the City’s inventory and will be accounted for using account string 455-141-000-000-41-14100.
