BACKGROUND:
The Joint Law Enforcement Operations (JLEO) Task Force Officer Program provides critical funding for the United States Marshal Service to partner with law enforcement agencies to investigate and apprehend dangerous fugitives, violent criminals, and repeat offenders. Since its inception, the program has successfully improved public safety, reduced violent crime, and enhanced interagency collaboration. The grant funding supports the task force operations, including personnel, and has been instrumental in leveraging resources and expertise to achieve shared law enforcement goals.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
This continuation grant will fund overtime expenses for a full-time task force officer (TFO), enabling the Ocala Police Department to enhance its investigative capabilities.
FISCAL IMPACT:
TFO overtime expenses will be reimbursed to the City of Ocala in the amount of $8,000. No match is required. Funds will be housed in account 001-060-883-521-52-14010; MUNIS Contract #260302.

BUDGET RESOLUTION 2026-125
A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2025-26 BUDGET TO ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $8,000
WHEREAS, the Joint Law Enforcement Operations (JLEO) Task Force is a crucial program of the United States Marshal Service, supported by the Department of Justice; and
WHEREAS, the JLEO program is funded through revenue deposited into the Assets Forfeiture Fund, with funding discretionally allocated; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the JLEO Task Force is to investigate and arrest individuals with outstanding state and federal warrants, prioritizing public safety, and violent crime reduction; and
WHEREAS, the joint effort aims to leverage local, state, and federal resources to apprehend offenders and enhance community security; and
WHEREAS, a Memorandum of Understanding is in place between the United States Marshal Service and the Ocala Police Department for the purpose of locating and apprehending fugitives; and
WHEREAS, a Memorandum of Understanding is in place between the United States Marshal Service, the Department of Justice, and the Ocala Police Department, governing the use of body-worn cameras by the Joint Law Enforcement Operations Task Force, ensuring consistency and accountability in the collection and management of evidence.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCALA, FLORIDA, duly assembled in regular session, that the Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget be amended as outlined below to accept and appropriate $8,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice/U.S. Marshal Service for the purpose of apprehending fugitives.
