BACKGROUND:
In 2019, the Centers for Disease Control’s Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) Program awarded grant funds to the Florida Department of Health to address opioid misuse and deaths throughout the state of Florida for the period of September 2019 through August 2022. City Council approved a one-year renewal on August 3, 2022 for the City of Ocala, through Ocala Fire Rescue, to continue the OD2A Community Paramedicine Program with the Florida Department of Health. At the time of the contract renewal, the new grant funding was not known. The Florida Department of Health has awarded the City of Ocala $222,266 for the renewal term through August 2023.
This will allow the OD2A Community Paramedicine Program to continue providing services to individuals in Marion County who are at risk of overdose, have recently overdosed, or who have a history of substance abuse with funding from the Florida Department of Health since 2019.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Under Standard Contract Number MI092, the Florida Department of Health agrees to pay the City of Ocala an amount of $222,266 for the provision of OD2A related community paramedicine services for the period of September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Florida Department of Health currently pays the City of Ocala for the community paramedicine services provided by Ocala Fire Rescue and will continue to reimburse the City of Ocala based on invoices submitted. Funds are available in expenditure accounts that cross several object codes in 001-050-918-522-52-*.
