BACKGROUND:

On May 6, 2025, the City Council approved a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to fund the design and construction of a fuel farm expansion pad, aircraft wash rack, and operations vehicle concrete parking pads at the Ocala Airport.

The FDOT is increasing its participation in this project because the engineer’s estimate (at 100 percent design) exceeds the total funding available.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

Maintenance of the Fuel Farm remains under the management of Sheltair Aviation.

Storm Resilience and Disaster Preparedness: Expanding the Fuel Farm area enhances the airport's storm resilience and disaster preparedness. With the current storage capability and 2024 sales volume, the airport has 11.28 days of Jet-A fuel and 21.74 days of AVGAS available. Expanding the fuel tank pad and increasing Jet-A capacity by 12,000 gallons will increase the number of days of Jet-A fuel to 15.25 days, further improving the airport’s operational readiness.

Airport Staff are working closely with the City Engineer to ensure that the project complies with local regulations, standards, and permitting requirements.

The project aligns with the long-term goals outlined in the Airport Master Plan.

McFarland Johnson, Inc. is the consultant responsible for the design work, operating under an existing general consulting agreement (AIR/220118), dated July 20, 2022.
