BACKGROUND:
This grant funds the procurement and installation of a new backup weather system and the replacement of the airport’s rotating beacon.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
• The existing backup weather equipment has failed and requires replacement.
• The existing backup weather equipment site no longer meets FAA siting criteria.
• The new backup weather site is adjacent to the primary weather instruments.
• The existing rotating airport beacon is over 10 years old and is failing. Maintaining this equipment is problematic and expensive.
• Newer rotating beacon equipment is available that is much easier to maintain.
• The Airport Advisory Board has expressed its support for this project.
• Staff is coordinating this project with the City Engineer.
• The project aligns with the Airport Master Plan.
• The corresponding Budget Resolution is also on this agenda.

A RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT A PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION GRANT AGREEMENT (PTGA) #FM456588-1-94-01 BETWEEN THE CITY OF OCALA AND THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO PROCURE AND INSTALL AIRFIELD EQUIPMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $109,972
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has awarded a grant of $109,972 to the City of Ocala for the procurement and installation of airfield equipment upgrades at Ocala International Airport; and
WHEREAS, the City requires additional funding to complete the project, including a transfer of $16,298 from the Airport project for contingencies account and $11,195 from the Airport reserve for contingencies account.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCALA, FLORIDA, in regular session duly assembled as follows: that the City Council President is hereby authorized to make, execute and deliver to the State of Florida Department of Transportation the Public Transportation Grant Agreement # FM456588-1-94-01.
