BACKGROUND:
On March 15, 2025, the Ocala Police Department (OPD) was notified it had been awarded $32,000 in grant funds through the Fiscal Year 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. This funding will support the OPD Law Enforcement Equipment Project, which aims to upgrade OPD’s district offices with essential equipment to process, analyze, store, and track evidence. The upgraded equipment will enhance OPD’s ability to solve crime and provide essential law enforcement services to the community.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The Ocala Police Department will utilize the funds to purchase equipment that will provide an enhanced, safe, and secure environment for evidence processing, storage, and tracking. One item, which will be procured through this grant, was previously approved through the sole-source process.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The $32,000 award does not require matching funds. The funds will be housed in accounts # 001-050-837-521-52-52010 and 001-050-837-521-52-52060.

A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2024-25 BUDGET TO ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE A FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFOCEMENT STATE ASSISTANCE GRANT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR A TOTAL OF $32,000
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement makes grants available to assist agencies with projects to promote one of six key focus areas to include law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, the Ocala Police Department has been awarded $32,000 in grant funds through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program; and
WHEREAS, these funds will be utilized to acquire equipment to support the Ocala Police Department’s mission to provide effective and efficient law enforcement services to the community.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCALA, FLORIDA, duly assembled in regular session, that the Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget be amended as outlined below to accept and appropriate $32,000 from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to purchase equipment for the Ocala Police Department.
