BACKGROUND:

The Public Works Sanitation Division is requesting approval of a one-year renewal of the City’s contract with Lewis Steel Works, Inc. for the provision of front-loading steel waste containers (“dumpsters”).  This renewal will allow the City to maintain its inventory of dumpsters at levels necessary to replace damaged or rusted dumpsters that are no longer serviceable; to service special events; and to meet the changing needs of our commercial customers. As new dumpsters from inventory are placed in service, Public Works will purchase additional front-loading steel dumpsters to re-stock the inventory.  Additionally, growth in the commercial market has resulted in a need to increase the number of containers in our inventory.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

On December 13, 2021, the City issued its Invitation to Bid (“ITB”) No. PWD/211136 for front-loading steel waste containers. Two (2) bids were received with the following results:

Lewis Steel Works, Inc. was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. Public Works Sanitation Division staff benchmarked the vendor’s renewal pricing and found renewal pricing to be competitive and to afford the City best value.

Public Works Sanitation Division staff recommends approval of the one-year renewal of Contract No. PWD/211136 with Lewis Steel Works, Inc. for the period March 2, 2023, through March 1, 2024.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for this contract has been budgeted in account 453-023-325-534-53-52010 for FY22-23 in the amount of $50,000. The remaining $185,000 will be budgeted in FY23-24.
