BACKGROUND:
On January 7, 2025, the City Council approved the award of Contract No. OFN/250008 to American Cable Electric, LLC for underground and aerial fiber optic cable installation services on an as-needed basis in the amount of $1,500,000. The agreement had an initial two-year term and included two one-year renewal options. Ocala Fiber Network (OFN) now seeks to exercise the first one-year renewal option under the terms of the existing agreement.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Ocala Fiber Network continues to expand and modernize its infrastructure by installing new fiber optic cables and replacing aging, end-of-life lines. These efforts are essential to support growing demand from residential and commercial customers while enhancing network reliability and redundancy. This work also directly supports OFN's city-wide build-out project by extending high-capacity fiber throughout the community and preparing the network for future growth.
Staff recommends approval.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The expenditure associated with American Cable Electric. LLC will be paid from Fiscal Year 2026-27 from the following accounts:
• 490-031-292-539-64-63020 - Improvements O/T Buildings in the amount of $150,000
• 490-031-291-539-64-63020 - Improvements O/T Buildings in the amount of $350,000
• 490-031-286-539-69-65010 - Improvements O/T Buildings in the amount of $500,000
