BACKGROUND:

The project consists of demolition and removal of the existing buildings located on the construction site for the City of Ocala's Parking Garage No. 2.  The buildings were formerly Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and are located at the following parcel #s/addresses: #2853-026-004/206 SW Broadway St., #2853-026-003/55 SW 3rd Ave., and #2853-027-005/123 SW 3rd Ave.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

On October 16, 2024, the City of Ocala issued Invitation to Bid (ITB) No.:  CIP/241097 for demolition and removal services for the buildings at the Parking Garage No. 2 construction site.  On November 8, 2024, four bids were received on a unit price basis as follows:

Thomas F. Amodeo/ A & A Trucking & Excavating was found to be the lowest responsible bidder, with a total bid of $94,694. Staff requests a 10 percent contingency of $9,469 to allow the City Engineer to issue change orders to cover unforeseen conditions and other conflicts that may arise during demolition.  With the contingency, the total Project budget is not to exceed $104,164.

Thomas F. Amodeo/ A & A Trucking & Excavating has satisfactorily completed similar projects for the City in the last five years. Staff recommends awarding the contract for demolition and removal services to Thomas F. Amodeo/ A & A Trucking & Excavating.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The Reserve for Projects account 001-099-999-513-81-99810 is an appropriate use of the project funding in the amount of $104,164 and will be transferred to expense account 001-020-328-545-69-65010.
