BACKGROUND:

The Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership created by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998 is a unique U.S. Department of Justice initiative designed to provide a critical resource to state and local law enforcement. Bulletproof vests have a five-year life span. Grants are available from the U. S. Department of Justice to assist agencies with 50% of the funding to replace expired vests and to purchase new bulletproof vests for law enforcement officers.

 

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

On 9/21/2022, the Ocala Police Department was advised that the funding opportunity entitled FY 2022 Bullet Proof Vest Partnership (BVP) was approved by the Bureau of Justice Assistance in the amount of $23,025. This grant will allow for the agency to purchase bulletproof vests. There will be a 50% match of $23,025 budgeted for fiscal year 2022/23 in account 001-018-822-521-52-52010.

FISCAL IMPACT:

A match of $23,025 is provided as required for the 50% match for the grant which is budgeted in account 001-018-822-521-52-52010.

BUDGET RESOLUTION 2023-115

 

A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2022-2023 BUDGET TO ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE A U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE BULLETPROOF VEST GRANT TOTALING $23,025

 

 

WHEREAS, bulletproof vests have a five year life span and grants are available to assist agencies with funding to replace and purchase new bulletproof vests for Law Enforcement Officers; and

WHEREAS, on September 21, 2022, the Ocala Police Department received an award of $23,025 from the Bulletproof Vest Program funded by the Bureau of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, and U.S. Department of Justice for the purchase of bulletproof vests; and

WHEREAS, the Police Department’s budget includes funding for the required 50% grant match.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCALA, FLORIDA, duly assembled in regular session, that the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget be amended as outlined below to accept and appropriate $23,025 from the U.S. Department of Justice for the purpose of purchasing bulletproof vests for the officers of the Ocala Police Department.
