BACKGROUND:
State funding is available to conduct investigations designed to combat illegal fentanyl activity. This grant provides reimbursement for approved fentanyl-related activities which include investigative operations. The Ocala Police Department has applied for funds in the amount of $74,313 to provide the Unified Drug Enforcement Drug Enforcement Strike Team funding for overtime to conduct these investigative operations, as well as one TruNarc device.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Grant funding will allow Ocala Police Department drug agents overtime hours to conduct fentanyl eradication operations. The acquisition of the TruNarc device is an imperative investment for the Ocala Police Department in ongoing efforts to address the escalating challenges posed by the surge in fentanyl-related cases.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The $74,313 award will support overtime operations and the purchase of one TruNarc device. No match is required. Funds will be housed in accounts 001-050-846-521-52-14010, 001-050-846-521-52- 21010, and 001-050-846-521-66-64010.

A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2023-24 BUDGET TO ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE A FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT STATE ASSISTANCE FOR FENTANYL ERADICATION GRANT TOTALING $74,313
WHEREAS, in 2023, the Florida Legislature established state funding under the State Assistance for Fentanyl Eradication (S.A.F.E.) in Florida program to conduct investigations designed to combat illegal fentanyl activity; and
WHEREAS, drug-related activities in the area are having a significant harmful impact and the Ocala Police Department is committed to addressing fentanyl issues and responding aggressively to the problem; and
WHEREAS, the Ocala Police Department applied for monies through the Florida Department of Law enforcement in the amount of $74,313 to fund overtime operations and the purchase of a TruNarc device.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCALA, FLORIDA, in regular session duly assembled, that the Fiscal Year 2023-24 budget be amended as outlined below to accept and appropriate $74,313 from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for the purpose of overtime operations for the Ocala Police Department.
