BACKGROUND:

This grant funds the procurement and installation of a new backup weather system and the replacement of the airport’s rotating beacon.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

The existing backup weather equipment has failed and requires replacement.

The existing backup weather equipment site no longer meets FAA siting criteria.

The new backup weather site is adjacent to the primary weather instruments.

The existing rotating airport beacon is over 10 years old and is failing.  Maintaining this equipment is problematic and expensive.

Newer rotating beacon equipment is available that is much easier to maintain.

The Airport Advisory Board has expressed its support for this project.

Staff is coordinating this project with the City Engineer.

The project aligns with the Airport Master Plan.
