BACKGROUND:
On June 30, 2023, the Ocala Police department was advised that the City of Ocala qualified for a direct allocation in the amount of $41,391 to provide reimbursement for expenses related to the Bureau of Justice Assistance Fiscal Year 2023 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. The intended program will focus on community policing and education.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Funding will be used to pay overtime for the officers participating in programs that offer opportunities for positive engagement with the community, for training, and classroom supplies.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The city will receive $41,391 in grant funding to assist the Police department with this program. Funding will be distributed in police department account, 001-060-881-521-52-*, as indicated in the budget resolution. No match is required; however, any additional benefit costs shall be absorbed by the city.

A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2023-24 BUDGET TO ACCEPT AND APPROPRIATE THE EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT FROM THE OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE TOTALING $41,391
WHEREAS, the Department of Justice makes grants available to assist agencies with projects to promote six key focus areas to include law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, the Ocala Police department recognizes the need to foster relationships with the community; and
WHEREAS, on June 30, 2023, the Ocala Police department was allocated $41,391 through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant through the Department of Justice, effective October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2026.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCALA, FLORIDA, duly assembled in regular session, that the Fiscal Year 2023-24 budget be amended as outlined below.
