BACKGROUND: The City of Ocala presents the 2025 Annual Progress Report for SunTran's 10-Year Transit Development Plan (TDP), as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requires. This report updates the Fiscal Year 2023 - Fiscal Year 2032 TDP Major Update, focusing on enhancing transit services and improving coordination with the Transportation Planning Organization. SunTran aims to recover ridership and upgrade infrastructure by adding bus shelters and enhancing the Downtown Transfer Station. Additionally, the report summarizes the progress made concerning the $16.2 million Low or No Emission Grant approved in 2024.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS: The progress report highlights three key areas: ridership recovery, infrastructure modernization, and service reliability. While ridership and efficiency are improving, maintaining on-time performance and operational sustainability remains a priority. The city aims for an 80 percent on-time performance rate through revised schedules, upgraded technology, and enhanced driver training. Staff will present the report to the Ocala/Marion County Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) on February 25, 2025.
FISCAL IMPACT: The report explains the actions taken to improve services as part of the TDP 10-Year Implementation Plan. Service improvements and changes planned for a specific year may be delayed or accelerated as needed. Priorities can change, which can affect funding. Sometimes, expected funding may not come through, while extra funding may become available at other times.
