BACKGROUND: The intent of the West Ocala Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Residential Property Improvement Grant program is to encourage homeowners to make significant property improvements to address deterioration trends in some neighborhoods while adding value to the CRA. Eligible work elements and requirements include:
1. The committee must approve exterior painting colors.
2. Repair and replacement of windows, and doors
3. Demolition of irreparable damaged houses or structures
4. New landscaping area visible from the street/sidewalk
5. Fencing installation
6. Reroofing
7. Weatherization
8. New construction
Each property owner can submit one application per fiscal year. The maximum amount that can be awarded is $20,000, covering up to 75 percent of the final project costs.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS: Application CRA24-45745 was reviewed and processed in accordance with the grant program guidelines. The applicant, Marcheta Coleman, has resided at the property for over 60 years and proposes to replace the HVAC system, air ducts, thermostat, and insulation. The HVAC unit was last upgraded over 24 years ago and is beyond repair. Key details of the grant request are provided in Table 1 below.
The West Ocala Grant Review Committee visited the site on July 9, 2024, and recommended approval of the request. The West Ocala CRA Advisory Committee recommended grant approval on July 18, 2024. Please refer to the attached packet for additional project information.
