BACKGROUND:
The Ocala City Council held a public hearing on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, to review and receive comments on SunTran's Fiscal Years' 2019-2021 budgets (5307 FTA Consolidated Capital Grant) in the amount of $6,664,524. The funding includes three FTA budgets combined into one consolidated grant/budget to address only capital items. The proposed consolidated budget includes matching funds of $1,666,131 in toll revenue credits from the State of Florida. The proposed capital grant requires no City/County match.
The grant includes funding for one trolley, one 35-foot diesel bus, and two small cutaway buses. The grant includes funding for other large capital items including bus shelters, a covered parking area for the buses, and a kiosk/bathroom facility at Union Station.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
Annually, FTA Section 5307 funds are allocated to communities to operate a fixed-route public transit system. The City of Ocala is the policy board for SunTran and oversees RATP DEV, the company that manages SunTran.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The FTA 5307 grant ($6,664,524) is awarded to the City to support capital items for SunTran. The 5307 funds will be received in account 494-331-000-000-09-33480 and expended via multiple accounts in 494-060-454-544*.
