body
BACKGROUND:
On October 29, 2020, the City Council approved the initial agreement between the City of Ocala (City), the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to receive funding through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program DR-4337-447-R to enhance drainage infrastructure in the Heritage Hills Subdivision, situated at NE Third Street.
The project involves enhancing the drainage retention system to effectively manage the current runoff in the area during storm events. This entails relocating two drainage wells to the Heritage Nature Conservancy Pond, abandoning the current drainage wells (that are inoperable), and installing a filtration system to optimize the available volume in the area. Additionally, a new pond will be constructed east of the Heritage Nature Conservancy Pond to mitigate flooding resulting from the retention of stormwater in the adjacent residential and commercial areas (this is in addition to the pond that is already there).

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:
The City and Florida Department of Transportation have found and determined that the transfer of responsibility for the existing wells contained herein and entry into this Agreement are in their respective best interests.
